The line and its ten stations

The operator's own description: 20 miles of heritage railway through Somerset countryside and coast, "a true country branch line of the old Great Western Railway" (west-somerset-railway.co.uk, read 7 September 2026). Going west from Bishops Lydeard the train calls at Crowcombe Heathfield, Stogumber, Williton, Doniford Halt (request stop), Watchet, Washford, Blue Anchor and Dunster before the terminus at Minehead - ten stations ending at the sea in Minehead. The route is a genuine there-and-back day: the full ride is long enough that the return trip fills it, which is what a branch line was for.

Heritage travel and the colour timetables

The WSR runs named colour timetables - Blue for a steam and diesel pair, Orange for two steam plus a DMU, Brown for all-steam days - and not every calendar day carries a public service at all (the operator's calendar, read 7 September 2026). The practical advice: pick the day on the calendar first, then travel. Rover tickets run through the season for hop-on hop-off travel: £36 for an adult booked in advance or £38 on the day, children 5-15 at £18 or £19, a family ticket (two adults, two children) £90 or £95, and dogs or bikes ride for £3.50 (operator prices, read 7 September 2026). A full-line single from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead is £25.50 on the day if you want to ride one way and walk the beaches at the far end before returning.
