Train Christmas gifts

The best train Christmas present is their own railway photograph, printed: as a poster, framed print, canvas or mug, made to order and delivered free in the UK.

A steam locomotive at a frosted heritage railway platform on a winter evening, lamps glowing and steam drifting.

The gift only they could have

Most railway fans already own the calendar, the book and the mug with someone else's locomotive on it. What they rarely own is their own photograph of the line, the engine or the gala day, printed big enough to hang. That is the gift here: a picture they took, made into something for the wall or the desk. Nothing gets engraved and no name is added, because the picture already says who it is for. Train gifts made from a photograph makes the longer case, and the gift section has a page for each kind of enthusiast, from spotters to model railway builders.

Printed as it was taken

If the picture is already good, print it unchanged. The upload checks the file against every size before you pay, so a small phone photo is only offered at sizes it can fill sharply.

Restyled as a railway poster

The same photograph can become a mid-century travel poster in flat colour, an ink and wash study or a classical oil-painting style. You see a free watermarked preview of each one and order only the version you like. Before you do, check the locomotive number and the livery against the original: an enthusiast will spot a wrong digit on Christmas morning.

Secret Santa train gifts

A Secret Santa budget rarely stretches to a framed print, and it does not need to. A mug with a colleague's own shot of the 08:12 they catch every morning, or the steam engine from their summer holiday, fits most budgets and shows you paid attention. If you are buying for someone at work, a photo they posted on the team chat or their profile is fair game, as long as it is theirs. The photo mug page shows the price and how the picture wraps round the 11oz mug.

Stocking fillers for train lovers

Small and personal works best in a stocking. An A4 poster of their best shot rolls into a tube that fits beside the satsuma, and a 500ml bottle printed with their photo goes on the next railtour. Both A4 and A3 take a phone photo well. Choose the framed poster at A3 if you want it to arrive ready to hang.

What it can go on

Posters run from A4 to 70x100 cm, and framed posters come at A3 or A2 in black or natural wood. Canvas runs from 30x40 to 60x80 cm, framed canvas from 30x40 to 50x70 cm, metal from 30x40 to 50x70 cm and wood at 30x40 or 40x50 cm. The framed print and canvas pages list every size and price, and the size guide shows which sizes their file can carry.

Finding the photograph without asking

Keeping it a surprise means borrowing their phone or their online albums for ten minutes. Look for the shot they took more than once, or a day you were there too: a gala, a railtour, the last day of a class in service. The picture has to be yours, or theirs with their blessing. Preparing the photograph covers file size and sharpness.

When to order for Christmas

Each one is made after the order goes in. Production takes 2 to 4 working days and delivery another 2 to 5, so allow up to 9 working days, not counting weekends and bank holidays. A restyled print needs two more days so there is time to choose a preview. Our printer has not yet published its 2026 Christmas cut-off dates, so order early. Delivery is included and goes to UK addresses only. Delivery and returns has the full terms.
